The Lewis County Transfer Station is offering two events:

Free Appliance Dump Week

The transfer station in Centralia and Morton is sponsoring a week long event for the community where you can get rid of your old appliances for FREE. Between the week of May 14th and May 19th, you can take your old appliances and get rid of them. Grab up those old refrigerators, dishwashers, hotwater tanks, and dryers that are taking space in the yard/garage and dump ‘em. Check out centralialive’s calendar of events for more info.

Spring Cleanup

The other event that the community has participated in the past is the annual Spring Cleanup at the Transfer stations. This year will be alittle different.

In the past, residents had to stay in long lines for hours at a time on Saturday and Sunday in order to get rid of their trash. This year, a voucher will be used instead. Centralia residents may apply for a one free disposal voucher, good for one load of household refuse, up to 2000 lbs. The voucher is good until December 31, 2007.

Application forms for the voucher are available for download, can be picked up at the Transfer Station, County Commissioners’ Office, or the County Public Services Building. Get a map of the locations to pick up the voucher form.

DVD’s for the Troops

Live95 has teamed up with some of the local area parents to start a DVD Drive to collect DVD’s to send to the Troops stationed in Iraq. The drive is aimed at collecting the DVD’s to stock a library of movies that will stay in Iraq, even when the battalion that is serving in Northern Iraq comes home. That way, no matter what battalion is there, they will have a little bit of home and some time to relax, have some popcorn, and not think about the war.

The members of the DVD Drive team ask that the movies be non-violent and non-graphic, they get enough of that in the war. Comedies, Drama’s, Inspirational, or even popular TV shows would be appreciated.

The deadline for collection is May 11th. All DVD’s for the drive can be dropped of at the Live95 radio station (get map and directions), where they have a collection box in the lobby. You can also call Live95 at 360.736.1766 for more information.

Regardless of how you feel about the War in Iraq, our troops are there. Help support our troops and give a DVD or two.

Hotspots in Centralia

Where are the Hotspots in Centralia you ask? Closer than you think. Wifi hotspots are popping up all over Centralia with more being added all the time. Hotspots enable users to access the internet thru a wireless network. Some of these are free while others allow connections thru subscriptions to providers like T-Mobile.

The map below shows hotspots in the Centralia and Chehalis area. Some big name players include Starbuck’s and McDonald’s where you can grab a cup of java or a Big Mac and surf the web.

Or, for a more relaxed environment, head downtown and enjoy locally owned businesses such as Santa Lucia Cafe or Boccata Deli and Market. But, if you are looking to unwind after a long day, you can catch up on your RSS Feeds and throw back a cold HammerHead Stout at the ever popular Olympic Club Hotel and Theater.

If you have another favorite hotspot, click on the “add” button below the map and feel free to add your comments to the different locations.

Subscribe to the map feed and stay up to date on hotspots that are added.
You can also download a WiFi Hotspot finder for your cell phone for free, or even add a hotspot finder for Skype.
